Technics SL 20 Turntable, help!?

My fiances mom gave it to me, she said it had never really been used. It’s still in the original box and has the manual. It’s extremely clean, all parts seem to be working fine and smooth. I plug it in and nothing happens. I can’t get the turntable to spin at all. Any suggestions? Things I should look for? Should I just sell it as is? Thanks!
I should also add, this turntable seems to be from the 80’s, although I’m not sure what year.

That’s a belt-drive table and there were clamping screws to keep the platter from turning or coming loose during shipping. So, the first things I would suspect are the clamping screws are in place, the drive belt is not around the motor pulley, or the drive belt has stretched and fallen off, etc…

Remove the rubber mat from the platter. If there are any screws through holes in the aluminum platter preventing it from turning or being removed by pulling it upward, remove those as they are the clamping screws for shipping.

If the clamping screws are not in place, rotate the platter while looking through the openings in the top and see if you can see the belt around the small motor pulley. The belt should be around a large pulley on the underside of the platter and stretched over to the motor pulley. If not, remove the platter by pulling it upward, find the belt and place it around the large pulley on the underside of the platter. Then, replace the platter and stretch the belt over to and around the motor pulley, working through one of the openings in the top of the platter. If the belt is broken, the rubber is breaking down, or it’s too stretched to work properly, you can easily find a replacement by Googling the model number of your turntable along with the word belt.

Good luck! Hope you get that old Technics spinning like new!

vintage cowboy boots need repair, is there any shoe paint i can touch up the toe with, its a mustard yellow?

genuine leather, beautiful unique shoes i want to wear more often but the yellow has scuffed off over the years near the toes of the shoes, any suggestions?
Another predicament of mine is, how should i go about getting these regular looking black scoff marks off the back of the boots heel area ? (not where the floor heel is that meets the back of the boots but the surrounding lower heel area f the boots,in other words, the are that has the leather and detail?.

personally I wouldn’t mess with that…take your boots to the people who know best about leather, a shoemaker and ask them all the questions before you mess it up. I’ve messed up enough stuff in my life to know better now. Leave leather to the professionals.

Woofer Foam

Woofer Foam
Sub woofer boxes?

My 2 x 10 inch speakers are in a box which has 2 port holes in it about 1 inch in diameter and heaps of air is forced through these when in use. I have covered it over with my hand but can’t really tell the difference. The box is also filled with foam. Do I need to seal it up and should I have the foam in there? I have 2 x 10 inch 400W (150W RMS) in there but they are in the same box without a divider inside? Should I put a dividing panel in there also?

For any pair of subwoofers the airspace is the cubed feet(volume) a speaker requires to be tuned at a certain frequency. the type of box u need can be answered with a few of my own questions.
1. What type of music do you listen to, this question is to know what frequency you should have your box tuned to; Rap has a real low frequency therfore you should go with a vented, ported or bandpass. if you listen to rock it has a higher frequency, it sound better with sealed.
2. What kind of speakers do you have. ever speaker has there own specific specs. which is airspace and the displacement of airspace by the size of speaker, usually make and year and type of model should be sufficiant.
3.what kind of vehicle do you plan to put them into and what kind of acoustics does your vehicle have.

If you have a prefabricated box which means that you got the box made for your car and not the speakers it is unlikly you will be satisfied by the sound it puts out. from the sound of it with a one inch port you don’t. and by covering up the port, WILL NOT HELP. Any ported box by design will have more air space then a sealed box. sealed boxes for 10″ subs will have an estimated .65 cubed ft. a vented or ported box will have an estimated 1.25 square ft and that is per speaker not encluding displacement. drop me a line with the information i ask with the external measurements of the box you have, with the thickness and the type of material you have and i will get back to you with more info. if you know it is wood; as long as it is not plywood you should be cool.

Turntable Belt
How do I remove a phonograph turntable to get to the drive belt and replace it?

I have removed the bottom of the phonograph twice. I can see a bit of the belt but can’t get in there to change it, so I figure I must actually access it from above, not below. But how? I can’t get the turntable off and don’t want to break anything. Thank you!
I pulled and pulled on the turntable but couldn’t get it to come off. I didn’t see any screw in the middle at the spindle or anything. I even tried to pry it off with a screwdriver—no luck. How the heck do I get to this thing? Yikes!

Most belt driven turntables have a top motor driver shaft accessible by the top. Is there a rubber pad on top of the plate ? if so, remove it, and look for removing the plate itself by holding with both hands and pull upwards, this should do.

Belt drive / Direct drive turntables, Which one???
