What sound cards are good for digital output to receivers?
I am planning on building a Home Theater PC. I want as few cables as possible cluttering up the back of my components and want to go all digital. What sound cards have digital outs so I can run a sole digital output connection (optical, coaxial) to a digital input on my receiver.
My sound blaster Audigy has a digital output. My Audigy, is an external USB device, howver, there are PCI cards available as well. I am assuming the cards will have the same output as the external device.

how do i connect a 5.1 cinema surround sound to my plasma tv?
I have a 50″ plasma samsung tele and bought a cinema surround kit off ebay!!! its got a subwoofer and 5 little speakers but no instruction manual. please help.
Hi Goldilocks……If you have a “hdmi out” input at the rear of your 5.1 system….You must connect that with a hdmi cable to that input…Then connect the other end to the the rear of your samsung tv to the “hdmi in #2 input” ok……Then you can connect any “components” that you may want to use now or in the future eg:ps3,xbox etc from your 5.1 sytems rear outputs that you have available to those “components” ok….If you dont have a hdmi input on the rear of your 5.1 system you must use other input connections that are available for you to use eg:optical digital, composite(which are the red, white and yellow) rca cables or the component(which are different colours and usually5 or 6 in total i.e green, blue, red, yellow, white and red) rca cables…THE SAMSUNG SHOULD ONLY HAVE 5 OF THESE INPUTS AT THE REAR OF YOUR TV…. Those are the alternative connection methods to use and only use them to the rear inputs of your samsung tv ok….and again you only use one type of those cables to connect properly and never ever use those cables to connect at the same time when using a hdmi cable, because you only need to connect with 1 hdmi cable you don’t need to use any other cable to connect to the same component….As for the speakers, the cable you have for them should be 1 all red and the other red with a black line on it….It does not matter which one you use but,you must nominate which is for the positive and negative…So well say the all red wire is the positive one ok…you simply connect that to the rear of say the left main channel speaker terminal at the rear of your 5.1 system…postive wire to the positive speaker terminal input(hole) then connect the other end of that to the left main speaker terminals the same way positve to positive and negative to negative…..now you can do that to the other 4 speakers and the sub as well….Make sure that use the proper speaker for each connection ok and you can’t go wrong with it …. I hope you have understood that and that will help you to connect…If you have problems or confused about connecting… just e mail me if you want thats ok…..Cheers!
