Stereo Speakers
Looking for a way to make standard home stereo speakers wireless?

Is there a device that will convert my existing home stereo speakers into wireless? I have a pretty good quality surround sound system, but I am tired of the speaker wires . I need to go wireless, but I want to use my existing speakers. Anyone have any ideas????

The previous responder obviously missed the January 2008 issue of “Home Theater” magazine, which discusses exactly the kind of gear you’re looking for.

The magazine reviewed and gave excellent marks to the KEF Universal Wireless Speaker Kit ($600). Similar (but unreviewed) products include the Rocketfish RF-WHTIB Wireless Rear Speaker Kit ($100), the Kenwood RFU-6100 Wireless Amplifier ($300), and the Amphony Model 1550 Digital Wireless Audio Transmitter/Amplifier ($200).

Watt Pair
would two hifonics hfi12d4’s make a good pair with a metrik 1300 watt amp?

the amp is 600 rms and 1300 max and the two subs are 600 watt max a piece and 300 watt rms a piece,

It’s fine. I doubt that amp will actually give you 600w, but 400-500 would be plenty for the subs to do their thing.

Bridge it and do this:

Is there an audio splitter for a home/bookshelf stereo system?

I’ve got a bookshelf stero system with only 1 audio input for the red & white connectors, one for my computer and I’d like to hook up my DVD’s audio into it too. Are there any splitters available for allowing this?

Get something like this it will work just fine just don’t have the dvd player and the computer playing an audio source at the sam time it will sound terrible because they will be mixed together.

Or something like this and then its just a push of a button.

First one is a splitter and cheap, second one is a switch costs more..

Subwoofer Sub

Subwoofer Sub
can I use a active (powered) sub woofer on a Home Theater system that has a passive subwoofer?

The active subwoofer has a rca connector and a power cord and the subwoofer output on the stereo has the speaker wire. can you interchange the two?

I have no idea what onegrtch is talking about. Some active (powered) subwoofers have speaker inputs for use with systems that do not have a preamp level sub output such as yours. The impedance of these inputs will be in the K-ohms and it has nothing to do with the impedance capability of your receiver. Your receiver will typically be capable of a few ohms so it will not even know the several thousand ohm input of the active subwoofer is there. These subwoofers will also have speaker outputs which are just a pass through of the speaker inputs. If your sub is like this then you simply connect your receivers sub speaker output to either of the speaker inputs on the sub and you do not use the other speaker connections on the sub.

If your sub has only the preamp output then it gets complicated. It can be done but you will need to build a simple circuit with resistors. Without knowing the gain of your sub the exact resistor values needed are unknown. What you need is a voltage divider with a total impedance of about 8 ohms give or take a couple ohms. An 8 ohm and a 1 ohm might be a good starting point. The two would be in series with the 1 ohm at the ground end. You would tap off the top of the 1 ohm and ground to go to your sub’s preamp input. You might have to experiment some to determine the best values. If the signal is too strong you could put another 1 ohm in parallel with the first making your voltage divider become 8 in series with 1/2. If the signal is too weak then replace the 1 ohm with a 2 or larger until you get optimum results. If you have no idea what I’m talking about then don’t try this at home. Or at least first study the concept of resistor network voltage dividers by googling it before you try. And then recognize that the voltage coming off your sub speaker output is too strong and that you are trying to reduce it while maintaining an appropriate impedance load on the sub output.

Can someone help me with designing a subwoofer enclosure?

I am kinda new at building boxes, but it’s something i really want to learn. I am planning on building a transmission line subwoofer enclosure for my Blazer and I am imitating a model that i saw online. The dimensions of the box are 36″W x 20″BD x 20″TD x 14″H. This is where i get confused. What the hell does TD and BD stand for. Other than that i think I’m good. Anyone know?

its top depth and bottom depth because when you build a box depending on the shape and size depends on the measurements. you see the top depth sometimes is small than the bottom depth because the put a slant in the front where the subwoofers will be facing up a little bit. for different reasons depending on the sub. but ur box is going like this:
no slant, a regular box. a great beginner box to start with. goodluck.
a few tips:
-use screws dont just glue
-cock the inside of the box to create an airtight seal
-make sure ur whole cut out is right for the sub ur putting in. (some subs vary and will not be the same allowing air leakage)
-once done with box and ready for sub installation put cotton balls inside. this helps the bass hit harder(little secret)
