Where does one get vacuum tubes tested for a early 70’s radio receiver? ?
Where does one get vacuum tubes
A tube testor could be hard to find but here are some ideas…
If you know of or can get in touch with some local ham operators (Amatuer Radio operators) as them if anyone in the area collects or restores antique radios. If you locate someone like this give them a call they probably have a tube tester and might be willing to help.
Another idea would be an old TV shop in town, if they are still in business. They might have an old tester around from past years.
Tube testers can be found on sale on Ebay as well as all kinds of tubes both new and used. (buyer beware – but good stuff can be found.)
A commercial site that has lots of tubes and more for old radio restoration is www.tubesandmore.com.

My RCA Scenium 65″ projection TV keeps shutting down on me. It will run for about 5 minutes, then kicks out all power to the unit. It will start up again and then shutdown. It does this about 3 times before staying down. This started happening about 1 month ago. I vacuumed out he entire inside of the TV and the problem went away for about 1 month, now it’s back. Nothing I do will keep it running. I live about 450 KM from the nearest repair man. Any suggestions?
It sounds like you have a bad solder connection ,which acts up until the contact expands enough to make good contact. I’d say when you had the back off you might have moved something to help. If you have any experience around tvs you can check the power supply or horizontal output circuits for bad solder connections on the pc board.
Ive been considering a few ideas for a simple low-gain HF antenna…..Either a 1/4 wave monopole with ground radials or a 1/4 wave dipole (i don’t have a lot of room)……..Im going to be running around a 100 watts on a old tube Heathkit transmitter on 28 mhz (only 28 because im only a technician so i have nothing in the 29 mhz range)………I guess my question is which antenna is better for my application (im thinking medium range communication and DX because 10meters isnt popular in my area)…….also i have another question…..i have a loaded cb antenna…..its only a few feet so i assume its 1/4 wave……because the cb frequencies are close to the 10 meter frequencies im going to be operating on, i was curious about the performance of this cb antenna ON the Amateur frequencies…..i know its performance would suffer a little bit because its not tuned to the 10 meter band (and i dont want to modify it)……so would it be possible?
yes, you can use an 11m antenna on 10m unmodified…. the match would be off, perhaps 2.5:1VSWR, but anything under 3:1 is acceptable. 1:1 is best and is rarely possible (well, considering that the radio is 50 ohm, the feedline is 52 or 53 ohm, and the antenna is 35 to 75 ohm).
